- This is part of a 10-card subset highlighting some notable feats in baseball history. These were not on the cutting edge of card technology. Never heard or seen since Ernie Banks referred to as "Hustler.'' "Mr. Cub,'' yes.

- Another of the cards my brother gave me from his collection.
- Banks would win his second consecutive MVP in '59, hitting 45 homers and driving in 143.
- He finished with 512 homers for his career, hitting a record 277 as a shortstop. That was broken by Cal Ripken Jr. with 345.
- Banks is the all-time Cubs leader in games played (2,528), at-bats (9,421), extra-base hits (1,009) and total bases (4,706).
- His effervescence and enthusiasm for the game was unmatched then and now. I wish all major-leaguers realized how lucky they truly are. Ernie Banks did and showed it every day on and off the field.
