The Blush TAG

I adore tags because the questions allows each and every one to open up about a topic. Then, I can hear everything at once by searching for the title of the tag.

Today, I will tackle the questions in The Blush Tag. I first heard of The Blush Tag from Kimberly Clark on YouTube (linked in below). And she saw the tag on NotYourTypicalDollFace YouTube channel by Sarah (linked in below). Sarah credited this tag to French origin and she was probably the first one who translated it into English. So, I have the questions and corresponding answers below.

For each question, I will post what I shortlisted and explain how I narrowed down to choose one blush.

Disclaimer: I bought the items one by one over a long period of time.
BLUSH TAG QUESTIONS:

1. Best Packaging

I interpret this two ways, (i) sophisticated, and (ii) girlish.
(i) For sophisticated packaging, I looked out for glamour, how practical the packaging is for storage and how easy it is for me to tell the colour. I asked myself,

"Which box would I collect when all the powder inside is gone?"

I shortlisted Catrice blushes, Essence blushes, Estee Lauder blushes, and Hourglass Ambient Lighting blushes.

Catrice, (leftmost), Essence, (centre), Estee Lauder (top right), and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush (bottom right).
I love transparent packaging that allows me to see the product straightaway. I also love packaging that is stackable, like Catrice and Estee Lauder. At the same time, I appreciate large mirrors in a compact. In the photo below, you will see that both Estee Lauder and Hourglass have a sturdy compact that holds a good-size mirror.

In the end, I chose the Estee Lauder Pure Colour Blush as my answer to Best Packaging because I asked myself,

"Which is the most practical for me to bring to a dinner?"

So, I figured that beautiful gold finish with the large 'E' makes Estee Lauder stand out. Estee Lauder is stackable and closes tight. I also like that the colour of the blush is printed on the back of the compact. I have found this feature to be so useful when drawing out a blush from the stash.

(ii) For girlish packaging, I looked out for how strong is the character of the blush, how cute is it? I shortlisted Benefit blushes, Physicians Formula blushes, theBalm blushes and Skin Food blushes (Korean brand).

I love the Benefit Majorette Blush packaging in particular because it is a cute little cupcake.

The Majorette blush has a magnetic closure and a little round mirror inside. The cream product also has a beautiful sun emblem embossed on top and covered with a plastic cap.

Benefit Rockateur Blush also has the most amazing metallic rose embossment.

I find that the Creative Director and his/her team at Benefit have an incredibly coherent idea of what Benefit Cosmetics represents. They are fun yet very practical, to the extent, all of Benefit products have their colours printed on the packaging without looking like they had tried too hard to show the colour.

All of that said, I choose Physicians Formula for Best Girlish Packaging, just because the blush itself always surprises me like no other. Physicians Formula keeps innovating the finish of its products to suit its name exactly. Physicians Formula spares no effort to make the powder look appetising. And for that, I think it deserves Best Girlish Packaging.

2. Prettiest Color

Rose blushes are hands down the best (if you have warm medium skin).
I am showing a series of rose blushes. They all look similar to NARS Deep Throat. They are the M.A.C Supercontinental (Limited Edition), Becca Flowerchild, Essence Babydoll, Zoeva He Love Me Maybe, NARS Deep Throat, and Milani Luminous (not Luminoso).

I have swatched them in the same order so you can see what rose colour blushes look like on warm medium skin.

From left, 1. Essence Flower Grunge Be Flowerful (Limited Edition) (not in previous photo), 2. M.A.C Supercontinental (Limited Edition), 3. Becca Flowerchild, 4. Essence Babydoll, 5. Zoeva He Loves Me Maybe, 6. NARS Deep Throat, and 7. Milani Luminous.

Now, you see what I mean by "rose is my favourite colour of blush."

I use NARS Deep Throat blush so much that I have hit pan on it! =)

3. Most Pigmented
This has to be Le Metier de Beaute Radiance Powder Rouge.

I have to be careful with the amount of strength I use when I tap my brush on this blush because it is easy to overdo.
Also, some say the shade Echo looks like NARS Orgasm blush. I think Echo is a deeper shade of coral and definitely more pigmented than NARS Orgasm.

4. Everyday Blush
I have a couple of staples on my dresser, such as NARS Deep Throat, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush, and Burberry in Tangerine.

I will award the Best Everyday Blush to Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush (the on in the middle in picture below) because I have been reaching for this over the rest for the last two months. I think the intensity is just right for everyday. With NARS Deep Throat, I feel like I have to use a foundation and some eye makeup to match. But with Hourglass, I usually wear this blush over my moisturiser or bare skin, with no other makeup.

5. Party Blush
I feel like saying Blush Horizon de Chanel but it is limited edition and not available anymore, so I will go with RMK (Japanese brand) EX-04 Pink Gold.

I use Blush Horizon de Chanel on special occassions only because it has a pretty rose gold bar that gives the golden sheen when mixed with all the other colours and also because I know there is no replacing this blush when it is gone. Using a limited edition blush on special occassions makes everything feel extra special.

The RMK blush has the most amazing iridescence amongst all my blushes. One moment, it shines blue and red, the next moment, it shines gold. That's what I call a true iridescence.

6. Regret Purchasing
There are three things about makeup that tend to make me regret, (i) colour that does not suit me, (ii) products with so little pigments that they do not show up, and (iii) products that go bad too quickly. And the products in the photo below fall under these categories.

On the left of the photo, there is the Nvey Eco blush in 961 that is a metallic deep plum. It makes me look bruised.

Then on top, there is the e.l.f Studio Blush in Twinkle Pink that is supposed to be a dupe for NARS Deep Throat or NARS Orgasm but is neither. Twinkle Pink does not show up at all. It is too stiff to yield any colour. And the colour in the pan itself is far too light to look like NARS Deep Throat or NARS Orgasm.

Below, there is Sheene Choco Mousse Cheek that has dried out. I still love the colour a lot but I have learned that I should not buy cream products.

At the bottom, there is M.A.C Paint Pot that has all shriveled up.

I got the cream products some 5 years ago, and they will be discarded. I think I knew very little about life when I was younger, and I made some mistakes because I did not know myself fully and I did not know how certain products work. But then, that is how I learn, and that is what life is about - sometimes, you just learn the hard way. And that is when I want to share, so that others do not have to walk the same path.

Anyway, these are the swatches of those products: from left, Nvey Eco in 961, e.l.f Studio Blush in Twinkle Pink, Sheene Choco Mousse Cheek, and M.A.C Paint Pot.

7. Least Used
I am shortlisting the blushes, Inglot (top left), Burberry Light Glow Natural Blush in Tangerine (top centre), Laura Geller Vanilla Peach Cobbler (top right), Bobbi Brown French Pink (bottom right), Illamasqua Lover and Hussy (bottom centre), Essence Flora Grunge Be Flowerful (bottom left).

I love these colours but I use them for special looks and special occassions.

I seldom touch my Inglot blushes because I accidentally scratch one of them with my nail so hard while flipping the magnetic top open. For a while, I was afraid to damage it any further.

I seldom use the Burberry Tangerine, Bobbi Brown French Pink, and Illamasqua Lover and Hussy because they are completely matte and I am not a fan of matte blushes. I only use them when I know I need a matte blush to tone down the look. Then, I will choose a colour from the three to match the lip colour that day. Burberry Tangerine is an earthy nude, Bobbi Brown French Pink is a plum pink that look bright on my skin, and Illamasqua Lover and Hussy are peach pink when used together.

I use Essence Floral Grunge Be Flowerful sparingly because I have yet to find a dupe for that limited edition colour.

And I seldom use Laura Geller Vanilla Peach Cobbler because it last less than 6 hours. I have worn this blush down a lot from its original dome because it is so beautiful. It is really just too bad that it does not last.

8. Most Used/Would Never Let Go Of
I literally have not let go of this blush - Benefit Sugarbomb. Benefit Sugarbomb is no joke; it is so beautiful that I finished every last particle of the 12.0 g blush. Sugarbomb is the second blush I have emptied completely in my entire life.

I am itching to buy a new one but am holding out until I empty another blush.

You can see Sugarbomb in its pristine condition in my Benefit Sugarbomb post here.

9. Favorite Blush Brand
NARS. I love the variety of shades and the quality the brand assures. On the premise that I have hit pan on NARS Deep Throat for some time now and still feel like there is more than half of the 4.8g of product left, I think I can say that the NARS blushes are value for money.

10. Greatest Blush Discovery of Last Year

I will go with Tarte Amazonian Clay 24 Hour Blushes.

I have got Tarte Exposed and Tarte Blissful from a long time ago but I have always found them to be stiff and have minimal payoff when I swatch them with my fingers. I only discovered how pigmented and long-lasting they are in these two months when I tried using a brush with them. Since then, I got myself Tarte Glisten (photo below) that looks like a cross between NARS Deep Throat and NARS Orgasm.

Tarte Glisten looks like the baby of NARS Deep Throat and NARS Orgasm (photo below).

In photo below, NARS Deep Throat (leftmost), Milani Luminous (not Luminoso), then Tarte Glisten, and NARS Orgasm (rightmost). Don't you think they all look similar?

11. Most Practical

Innisfree Eco Camellia Tint. I use it as a base for all my blushes, to boost the colour and brightness, and also to hold the blush colour for longer throughout the day. The Innisfree Tint is a lifesaver for hot summers. It is also practical because I can apply it with my fingers and a little goes a long way.

I also want to say my Maybelline Jelly Glow a.k.a Dream Bouncy is really practical because of the same reason - can be applied easily with fingers and acts as the perfect base for all other blushes to last.

12. Least Practical

Sleek, because I cannot open the compact without scratching my nails.

Look at the width of the gap - so small that there is no way one can open a Sleek blush without digging with the nail.

13. Most Expensive

That has got to be Tom Ford in terms of price per compact.

This colour is Wicked.

But considering that Tom Ford gives 8.0 g of product as compared to RMK (the one I showed in Best Party Blush) that gives only 2.0 g of product, I think RMK is more expensive.

Yes, only 2.0 g.

It might also be the YSL Puff Blush that I got as a gift a long, long time ago.

14. Least Expensive

I got a blush from a Japanese thrift store that sells everything for $2 a couple of years back. The store has closed. But I got a backup of the product because I love the colour and the quality for the price.
