CHANEL LES 4 OMBRES MULTI-EFFECT QUADRA EYESHADOW IN TISSÉ RIVOLI (226)

Description & Inspiration
This is one of eight new eye shadow palettes that have been released by Chanel and have been reformulated (thankfully and finally!) to be smoother and give more colour intensity than its predecessor of baked eye shadow formula made in Europe.  The shades are inspired by Chanel Couture and the notably, the iconic Chanel Tweeds.  Here are some interesting points about this new formula from Chanel:
- An exceptional concentration of long-lasting pure pigments for a wider range of effects and intensities
- A jellifying system and a blend of polymers and spherical powders for a soft, creamy, glide-on texture and shades that blend together perfectly for an even make-up result
- A new manufacturing process for easy application and immediately intense coverage
- A total absence of talc for heightened colour radiance and luminosity
- Synthetic mica to ensure consistency between the colours in the case and the makeup result on the eyelids
Ophthalmologist tested and suitable for contact lens wearers.

Packaging
Packaging-wise, all is the same as its predecessor. A beautiful, simple, lightweight, sleek black lacquered compact.

Above: product description label on the bottom of the compact.
The compact has a mirror on the underside of the lid for and very good quality, smooth sponge applicators. While most people would normally not bother to use these, I personally find them rather useful and perfectly fit for these type of eye shadows. They pick up the product really well and deposit and place the pigment perfectly when using a patting/dabbing motion. You can also use them to blend out any edges with gentle swipes.  Otherwise, they'll work just as well with your favourite brushes.

Colours & Finishes
The palette contains an iridescent pale champagne highlighter with the slightest hue of plum, a shimmering taupe, a medium, shimmering, warm, coppery brown with a slight plum hue, and a deep satin taupe.  The composition is warm, but not overly warm.  I find this looks best on my current olive, tanned skin (~NC35) indoors, under artificial lighting (in the evening) - it appears more neutral and natural looking.  In natural, daylight it can pull too harsh, warm and slightly muddy on me.  I think it will be most flattering and dramatic for those with fair to lightly tanned skin tone.
Swatches
Applied on tanned, olive skin (~NC35) and photographed indoors under artificial lighting using a strobe. These were swatched dry (with no primer, etc), using the sponge applicators provided and minimal number of swipes (2-3).
Comparison Swatches
The most similar eye shadow quad I could find in my stash is Guerlain Écrin 4 Coleurs in 'Les Bois de Rose' (04) - but as you can see, they're quite different still!  Guerlain's has slightly cooler taupes and a bright rose pink shade.
Texture, Application & Longevity
I'm very impressed with the pigmentation of these reformulated eye shadows. I only need to go over the eye area once to get decent colour pay-off.  When applied, the colour stays true to what you see in the pan.  The texture is smooth, slightly creamy even (compared to the previous formula which was much dryer and even a bit coarser in texture and needed a damp brush to soften the product and to get better colour intensity).  In fact, it's so smooth, I could just as easily apply the eye shadows with a clean finger tip and apply it well!  It adheres to the skin and blends easily.  I experienced no fall-out during application.  The wear time is excellent.  Lasting from morning and through evening with hardly any fading on my normal (neither oily or dry) eye lid condition and without the use of eye primer.

RRP & Size
£40.00 for 2 g / 0.07 oz - a little more than the original Chanel quads, which weighed 1.2g / 0.04 oz.

Overall
Tissé Rivoli is a little too warm for me for day wear and while I don't believe it's the most exciting/dramatic palette out of the four I've selected from the range (see my selections here) in my opinion, I still think that lovers of warmer-toned taupes will enjoy this palette and the plum and copper nuances do make it unique.

Hope this was useful. :)

Thanks for looking. ^_^ xo
