Watch "Renee" Character Profile: Rupert Friend on playing 'McKenna'

There's a new behind the scenes video interview (thanks to Renee Movie on Twitter for the info) with Rupert Friend (Pride & Prejudice, The Young Victoria, 5 Days of War), who plays producer David B. McKenna in Renee. The movie is currently screening in a couple film festivals (including Florida Film Festival), and will be screening for free in Houston (free tickets were given away Wednesday and are sold out!) this weekend (Saturday, April 28th), and is said to be finalizing a distribution deal (according to the official facebook page). No announcement of a trailer and theatrical release date for this film (which is slated for a 2012 release) as of yet.

"Renee" The Movie, was filmed entirely on location in Orlando, Florida. The indie drama is based on the true story of Renee Yohe, whose battle with drugs, depression, addiction and cutting led to the creation of the charity group To Write Love On Her Arms.

FYI: David McKenna and Renee Yohe became friends some years ago in Orlando. They bonded over their similarities since he, too, is in recovery from addiction, stemming from alcohol and cocaine abuse. It was McKenna's concern for Renee's recovery that set the ball rolling on the true story that serves as the basis for the film. (via Renee official facebook page)

Renee official synopsis

“Renee” follows 19-year-old Renee Yohe (Kat Dennings) who has always loved fairy tales: the idea of a princess, a hero and a happily ever after. But Renee’s life is that of a darker tale: she’s a young woman battling addiction, depression and self-injury. In a creative blend of artistic fantasy balanced with harsh reality, the film follows Renee on her courageous journey towards recovery. The true story behind “Renee” is responsible for inspiring the global non-profit To Write Love on Her Arms.
